The gamma model--A new neural model for temporal processing

چکیده
In this paper we develop the gamma neural model, a new neural net architecture for processing of temporal patterns. Time varying patterns are normally segmented into a sequence of static patterns that are successively presented to a neural net. In the approach presented here segmentation is avoided. Only current signal values are presented to the neural net, that adapts its own internal memory to store the past. Thus, in the gamma neural net, an adaptive short term mechanism obviates a priori signal segmentation. We evaluate the relation between the gamma net and competing dynamic neural models. Interestingly, the gamma model brings many popular dynamic net architectures, such as the time-delay-neural-net and the concentration-intime-neural-net, into a unifying framework. In fact, the gamma memory structure appears as general as a temporal convolution memory structure with arbitrary time varying weight kernel w(t). Yet, the gamma model remains mathematically equivalent to the additive (Grossberg) model with constant weights. We present a backpropagation procedure to adapt the weights in a particular feedforward structure, the focused gamma net.

A Theory for Neural Networks with Time Delays
We present a new neural network model for processing of temporal patterns. This model, the gamma neural model, is as general as a convolution delay model with arbitrary weight kernels w(t). We show that the gamma model can be formulated as a (partially prewired) additive model. A temporal hebbian learning rule is derived and we establish links to related existing models for temporal processing.

متن کاملThe Application of Multi-Layer Artificial Neural Networks in Speckle Reduction (Methodology)
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) uses the spatial and temporal coherence properties of optical waves backscattered from a tissue sample to form an image. An inherent characteristic of coherent imaging is the presence of speckle noise. In this study we use a new ensemble framework which is a combination of several Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) neural networks to denoise OCT images. The noise is...
متن کاملA TS Fuzzy Model Derived from a Typical Multi-Layer Perceptron
In this paper, we introduce a Takagi-Sugeno (TS) fuzzy model which is derived from a typical Multi-Layer Perceptron Neural Network (MLP NN). At first, it is shown that the considered MLP NN can be interpreted as a variety of TS fuzzy model. It is discussed that the utilized Membership Function (MF) in such TS fuzzy model, despite its flexible structure, has some major restrictions. After modify...
متن کاملGroundwater Level Forecasting Using Wavelet and Kriging
In this research, a hybrid wavelet-artificial neural network (WANN) and a geostatistical method were proposed for spatiotemporal prediction of the groundwater level (GWL) for one month ahead. For this purpose, monthly observed time series of GWL were collected from September 2005 to April 2014 in 10 piezometers around Mashhad City in the Northeast of Iran. In temporal forecasting, an artificial...
